There’s something different about this July. Yes, it’s hotter than usual, but no, that’s not what we’re talking about. This July is noteworthy for Maryland homeowners in particular, because as of July 1, 2016, all heating oil sold in our state can contain no more than 500 parts-per-million (ppm) sulfur.
The sulfur limit of Maryland’s heating oil was first set in November of 2014 at 2,000 ppm, so this latest standard represents a 75% reduction from the previous level. That’s a big difference!
