Our summer blogs have focused on Alger Oil & Propane’s top-notch air conditioning services. But there are some important things we didn’t mention that might want to make you hurry up and upgrade your cooling system!
If you felt like your central AC was struggling to keep up with our record-breaking heat in July, you needed to call our service department a few times, or if your unit is more than 10 years old, read on to find out why right now is the best time to consider a new central air conditioner.
- Tax credits. In 2022 the Inflation Reduction Act included tax credits of up to 30% of new equipment and installation costs, up to $1,200 for central air conditioners and $2,000 for heat pumps. With the passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” in July, those tax credits disappear at the end of the year. If you don’t act now, you could be throwing away your chance to reduce your federal tax burden!
- Refrigerant. As of January 1, 2025, air conditioners can no longer be produced using R-410A, the refrigerant that has been used since 2010. New systems must use either R-454B or R-32, which have lower Global Warming Potential ratings. However, there is no ban on producing or selling R-410A or installing units produced prior to January 1, 2025, that use it. These units are, generally, less expensive than the newer models. You will want to talk to us now, while we still have a large selection of these systems in stock. Of course, if you want a new system using R-454B or R-32, we have those, as well!
- Efficiency. A new central air conditioner or mini-split will be much more efficient, even if your unit is only 10 years old. You could save 20% to 40% of your cooling energy costs with a new system, and see greater savings if your equipment is older.
- Scheduling. Talk to us now, so we can choose the right system for your home. We have more flexibility in scheduling as the summer wanes, and before the heating system hits!
- Financing. There’s no time limit on this one! Alger Oil & Propane offers low-cost financing for the purchase of cooling (as well as heating) equipment. When you buy a new system, we can arrange a loan that enables you to upgrade to a high efficiency system immediately and pay for it over time. The savings you achieve on energy in the first few years alone may offset the financing costs entirely.
